Kannan Ramchandran received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1993. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Coordinated Science Lab (CSL) at UIUC and a full-time Beckman Institute faculty member in the Image Formation and Processing Group. His fields of professional interest are image and video compression and modeling, multirate and multiresolutional signal processing, wavelets, robust image and video communication, packet video, and fast algorithms for signal and image processing.
