Shiyu Chang is a Research Staff Member at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center.
He recently completed his Ph.D. program and graduated from the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the
supervision of Prof. Thomas
S. Huang (October, 2016).
Shiyu has a wide range of research
interests in data exploratory and analytics at
large-scale. Specifically, his current research
directions lie on building high performance and
reliable systems with the help of the large-scale
multi-modality information to solve complex
computational tasks in real-world.
He received his B.S. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011 with the highest University Honor (Bronze Tablet Award). He graduated from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and obtained his M.S. degree in 2014. He is a recipient of the Kodak Fellowship Award in 2014 and Thomas and Margaret Huang Award in 2016. Most of Shiyu's research has been published in top data mining and computer vision venues including SIGKDD, WWW, CVPR, WSDM, ICDM, SDM, IJCAI etc. The paper Factorized Similarity Learning in Networks has been selected as the best student paper in ICDM 2014.
The book chapters and journal publications are listed below:

A job well done is its own reward. You take pride in the things you do, not for others to see, not for the respect, or glory, or any other rewards it might bring. You take pride in what you do, because you're doing your best. If you believe in something, you stick with it. When things get difficult, you try harder. Some words keep me moving forward.
