I am currently a PhD candidate of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a research assistant for the Image Processing and Formation Group of the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology

My major is on Image Processing, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. My Research interests are in Facial Analysis for Human-Computer Intelligent Interface (HCII). That includes face detection in complex background, facial feature detection, real-time face and facial feature tracking, facial gesture detection, face identification and facial expression recognition.

One of my most important contributions is a Vision Learning Technique based on discrete probability models and Information-Theoretic Discrimination measures. One of the most outstanding property of such algorithm is the low computational requirements that allowed me to build a real-time system for detection and tracking of multiple faces and facial features, recognition of faces and detection of facial gestures. This real-time vision-based facial analysis system has been integrated to a multimedia, multi-modal, web-based Computer Travel Companion. This computer companion responds automatically to the presence of its users and some facial gestures, and customizes its interface for its users using their identity.

On these pages, you will find a brief description of the our research projects: algorithms, results, examples, videos, and an Online Demonstration Program. Several of my publications are available in gziped, postscript format. From this page you can also link to my resume or download it in either postscript or MS Word format.

Here I have some HCII Humor...
