Signal Processing Seminar Title: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Speaker: Alan Craig University of Illinois-UC Date: March 5, 2008 Time: 4:00 - 5:00 pm Where: 2269 Beckman Institute Abstract: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality have turned the corner from being merely interesting laboratory novelties to become valuable tools with practical applications in many fields. In this talk, Alan will provide a background in virtual reality and augmented reality systems as well as their applications. He will address a range of technologies from low cost systems to elaborate systems such as the CAVE. He will also perform a live demonstration that provides a very early glimpse of projects using low cost augmented reality in science education, and humanities education. Biography: Alan Craig is a researcher at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, and Associate Director for Human-Computer Interaction at the Institute for Computing in Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, UIUC. He is co-author of the book "Understanding Virtual Reality", and the forthcoming book "Using Virtual Reality".
